After checking into our hotel and taking a break, we will enjoy a boat ride on Fewa Lake and a leisurely walk through the charming streets of the city. We will spend the night in Pokhara.

Today, we will take an early morning flight to Jomsom, a region known for its apples, strong winds, and striking landscape. We will start our trek on an open trail alongside a stunning valley, passing through Eaklibatti village before arriving in Jomsom. This village is situated on the banks of two rivers and is characterized by its flat-roofed houses and the remains of an old fortress. We will spend the night in Kagbeni.

After getting our permits checked, we will begin our trek along the Kali Gandaki River. We will walk on sand, surrounded by strong winds, before ascending a hill. Our destination is Tangbe Village, where we will marvel at its narrow alleyways, white-washed houses, fields of barley and buckwheat, and apple orchards. As we continue on our journey, we will pass through another village and cross a river before walking along a ridge. Our final destination for the day is Chele Village, where we will spend the night.

Today's trek will be a bit more challenging than what we have experienced so far. We will be crossing two passes: Taklam La pass (3,624m) and Dajori La pass (3,735m). Along the way, we will have the opportunity to enjoy beautiful views of Tilicho, Yakawa Kang, and Damodar Danda, and pass by Ramchung Cave. After descending further, we will reach Samar Village. From there, we will walk along a trail above the village and reach a ridge. We will then descend a steep trail to a stream before continuing our trek to Syanboche, where we will spend the night.

From the top of the pass, we will have the opportunity to admire the beautiful Lo Manthang village. After descending from the pass, we will arrive in Lo Manthang, a charming walled village. From here, we will have excellent views of the Himalayas, including Nilgiri, Tilicho, Annapurna I, Bhrikuti Peak, and Damodar Kunda (pond). We will spend the night in Lo-Manthang.

These gompas have recently undergone expert restoration and are worth visiting. Alternatively, we can also go on a trek to Tingkhar, a beautiful village located northwest of Lo-Mangthang. We will spend another night in Lo Manthang.

As we return from Lo-Manthang, we will take a different route and pass through Gyakar village. This village is home to the Ghar Gompa, a century-old monastery with beautiful rock paintings. According to local legend, anyone who makes a wish at the Gompa will have it granted. After exploring the Gompa, we will continue our trek to Drakmar, where we will spend the night.

To avoid strong winds, we will start our trek early and spend most of the day descending. Our trail will pass through a dry plateau and fields before arriving in Ghiling. The walk may be challenging, as we will likely face strong winds. Despite the dry climate, Ghiling offers good views of the Dhaulagiri and Nilgiri mountains. In the evening, we will have the opportunity to explore the village. We will spend the night in Ghiling.

Today is the final day of our trek, and it will be a long one. After walking for a while, we will reach the end of the Mustang trails and join the trails of the Annapurna circuit. We will stop for lunch in Kagbeni before continuing our trek to Jomsom, where we will spend the night.

We will take an early morning flight to Pokhara, which will be a memorable experience as the plane passes through a gorge between the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountains. Upon arriving in Pokhara, we will have the rest of the day to relax and enjoy the city. We will spend the night in Pokhara.

After having breakfast, we will say goodbye to the stunning northern skyline of Pokhara and embark on a journey to Kathmandu. What do I need to pack for the trek?

During the Upper Mustang trek, you will stay in lodges or teahouses rather than camping tents. While the experience may not be as cold as in Kilimanjaro, it is still important to bring the appropriate clothing. Refer to our detailed clothing packing list for recommendations on what to bring on the trek.

What fitness level do I need to be?

It’s also important to note that trekking to the Upper Mustang can be physically demanding and requires a good level of fitness. It is recommended that you start training a few months in advance, particularly if you are not used to long walks or hikes. This can help you to build up your endurance and strength, and reduce the risk of injury during the trek. Some helpful training activities include walking, running, cycling, and swimming. It’s also a good idea to gradually increase the intensity and duration of your workouts as you get closer to the trek. This can help you to prepare your body for the physical demands of the journey.
