Today, we will take an early morning flight to Jomsom, a region known for its apples, strong winds, and striking landscape. This village is situated on the banks of two rivers and is characterized by its flat-roofed houses and the remains of an old fortress. We will spend the night in Kagbeni.

As we continue on our journey, we will pass through another village and cross a river before walking along a ridge. Our final destination for the day is Chele Village, where we will spend the night.

Today's trek will be a bit more challenging than what we have experienced so far. We will be crossing two passes: Taklam La pass (3,624m) and Dajori La pass (3,735m). Along the way, we will have the opportunity to enjoy beautiful views of Tilicho, Yakawa Kang, and Damodar Danda, and pass by Ramchung Cave. After descending further, we will reach Samar Village. To avoid strong winds, we will start our trek early and spend most of the day descending. Our trail will pass through a dry plateau and fields before arriving in Ghiling. While the experience may not be as cold as in Kilimanjaro, it is still important to bring the appropriate clothing. Refer to our detailed clothing packing list for recommendations on what to bring on the trek.

What fitness level do I need to be?

It’s also important to note that trekking to the Upper Mustang can be physically demanding and requires a good level of fitness. It is recommended that you start training a few months in advance, particularly if you are not used to long walks or hikes. This can help you to build up your endurance and strength, and reduce the risk of injury during the trek. Some helpful training activities include walking, running, cycling, and swimming. It’s also a good idea to gradually increase the intensity and duration of your workouts as you get closer to the trek. This can help you to prepare your body for the physical demands of the journey.
